Evaluation

Sector, international and institutional benchmarking has been conducted prior to and throughout the project. The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) Plagiarism Advisory Service Roadmap 2005 has been instrumental in the University assessing its stage of development prior to remodelling its integrity strategy, in facilitating the development of the Institutional Framework and in the review of the Framework’s implementation by the University community and an external consultant.

To assess the effectiveness of the Framework after its university-wide roll out in semester 2, 2008, Griffith commissioned a review from an external consultant. The consultant surveyed academic staff and students, spoke with senior academic and administrative staff, surveyed and consulted academic managers responsible for academic integrity in each faculty and considered existing documentation including a self-review undertaken using an international benchmarking instrument.

The external consultant echoed AUQA’s September 2008 commendation for the way Griffith carried out the project of reviewing and improving its approach to student academic misconduct. The consultant also indicated that the Framework had effectively addressed deficiencies in the University’s previous approach to managing student academic misconduct leading to a more sustainable model for managing academic misconduct institutionally.
